eridan is such a perfect combination of "set up for failure" and "drove the stick into his own bike spokes". i am empathetic towards him, dont get me wrong. but i think hes woobified a bit too much in the fandom. he did have a choice, he didnt have to become a vengeful incel. its like a lot of incels irl honestly. the tragedy with him is knowing hes just a kid and seeing his potential, but also adamantly refusing to get better at every opportunity. he cries to karkat about no one visiting his planet, but that was mainly because he insisted on enraging the angels, making it a dangerous place. not to mention his itchy trigger finger. and when asked why *he* didnts take the initiative and leave to be social, he used killing the angels as an excuse, completely ignoring karkat when he points out that he wasnt supposed to be doing that. he had so many chances and just kept digging. theres nothing sadder than someone who wont help themselves.

I have no idea about Homestuck or its lore, but I really enjoy listening to this song. One thing I noticed is that the first stanza may be a reference to the novel "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. The protagonist of this novel, named Marlow, is a river boat captain, who replaced the previous captain and took control of his vessel, like a "prince" who inherits the throne. Most of his time is spent on the boat, so he "lives in a ship". At one point, the boat is being attacked by natives. Marlow notices that the boat's passengers are aiming their rifles too high, blindly "shooting from the hip" instead of aiming. The "friend I pity quite a bit" may be Kurtz, a powerful, yet cruel man whom Marlow seeks throughout the novel. The references probably go deeper than that, but as I said, I have no idea about Homestuck lore.
